South East Asia, and the Philippines in general, are well known for harboring incredibly violent extremist Muslim groups, notably Abu Sayyaf and so it should not come as any surprise that ISIS/ISIL had many supporters and trained soldiers there. As the jihad has evolved, so have these groups. What I am saying is, Islamic State now has troops and supporters everywhere.
The Abu Sayyaf now fully backs the Islamic State in the Philippines and are demanding 250 million Philippine peso (approx. $5,613,567.50 U.S.) from the German government for the release of two German hostages; Dr. Stefan Viktor Okonek (72) and Henrite Dielen (42) who were abducted while on their yacht and have been prisoners of the jihadists since April 18. Thre were originally two other hostages who have since been released. Abu Sayyaf say that the German government has 15 days (October 10) to deliver the money or they will murder the hostages. They also demand that Germany openly withdraw all support for the United States and it’s attacks on IS in Syria and Iraq as well as elsewhere.
